Office of International Affairs has provided an online service for Alien registration and VISA extension since March 6th, 2023.
You can see information on the new online application service as below.
 
* Please understand that this new online services for visa matters is only available for international students belong to Gwangju campus(including college of medicine)
because Yeosu immigration currently does not accept Electronic Applications .
 
1. Who needs to apply for Alien registration?

     - New arrivals to Korea among undergraduate and graduate students(freshman, returning students from their leave of absence, etc.)

[Caution]
   Foreigners staying in Korea for more than 90 days must register for an Alien Registration Card(ARC) at a local immigration office within 90 days from the date of entry.       Simply receiving your visa is not the last step to registration, and those with visas must receive an ARC to finalize their sojourn documentation.
   It is illegal to stay in Korea for more than 90 days without being registered, regardless of your visa at entry.
 

2. Who needs to do apply for VISA extension? (based on Spring semester 2024)

     - Students whose visa expires on(or before) September 30, 2023.
     - Going to higher level(Undergraduate(D22)→Master's degree(D23), Master's degree(D23)→PhD(D24))

- Since the visa expiry date may different for each international student, please check your visa expiry date and apply for visa extension at least one before the expiry date.

If you do not apply for visa extension before the expiry date, your stay in Korea will be regarded as “illegal” and please be noted that the person ultimately responsible for your visa matter is yourself.

☞ When you check your visa expiry date, you will be required to put your passport number, nationality, date of birth.
 

3. Application schedule for Aline registration and VISA extension.
 
     1) Alien registration: from February 26th 9:00 AM ~ March 8th 6:00 PM
     2) VISA extension: from February 26th 9:00 AM ~ March 15th 6:00 PM
 
★ Offering 24-hour application service during the period stated above. (You can use the service even after 6 PM and during weekends).
Real-time chat inquiry service is also available for you and you can check the status of your application through the website.

★ Those who have changed their university and those who have advanced to a higher degree(Bachelor to Master, Master to Ph.D),
     - available for Online application : Can apply for visa extension during February 26th(Mon) ~ March 8th(Fri), by Online application
     - NOT available for Online application : Must apply for visa extension during February 26th(Mon) ~ February 28th(Wed), by subitting your documents to OIA at the Global lounge(Room# 218 in G&R Hub)
 
★ If you are in the following cases, then you are not allowed to use the online application service. In this case,

1)please make a visit reservation through Hi.Korea
https://www.hikorea.go.kr/resv/ResvIntroR.pt
and visit the Gwangju immigration office with required documents and a confirmation letter of your personal visit issued by OIA. Without a confirmation letter of your personal visit, your documentation will not be accepted.

2) Or, you can submit your documents to OIA at the Global lounge(Room# 218 in G&R Hub) during below period.

[Who is not available for Online application service]
- Students who hold overall GPA less than 2.0
- Students who have a semester with GPA less than 2.0 within the last year(including seasonal semesters)
- Students who have not paid taxes, national heath insurance fees.
- Students subject to criminal treatment
- Students who have not reported their passport reissuance.
- Students who need re-issuance of Alien registration card(no more blank column on the backside of ARC, loss of ARC, etc.)

☞ If any international students in above cases apply through the Online application website, we will request cancellation after reviewing the documents.
In addition, please understand that even though you are not in any of cases above, you can be requested to submit your documents to the immigration office directly
(In this case, you will receive a notification separately).

5. Application fee

    - Aline registration: 30,000 KRW
    - Visa extension: 60,000 KRW(If you need to reissue your card, you need to pay 30,000 KRW additionally.)
      * Various payment options are available for our new online application service; account transfer, credit card, PayPal, Wechat Pay, etc.). However, you are allowed to pay the fee in cash only in case you submit your documents to immigration office directly(or OIA).
